“What gives me hope are young people: They know it and they call it.” - Inger Anderson
Environment Workshops
HB Youths environment workshop combine scientific knowledge with fun and practical environmental skills, from gardening through to green leadership. These workshops aim to give young people insight in to the crisis we are facing, while arming them with the hope and inspiration to take the next steps as young environmentalists.
About delivery
Our environment sessions are, at their heart, about hope. They are educational and designed and delivered by a qualified worker who studied climate studies at degree level. However they are also about making environmentalism accessible to the widest range of young people, those with out access to green space, those with lives where recycling and making eco choice may not be a priority for them.
Along side having a combined degree in Youth Work and Climate studies, Helen is a passionate environmentalist and created a monthly climate news letter for Trafford Council, for which she won an ‘Epic Award’ for environmental activism.

This workshop provides a hands-on gardening experience where young people will get to pot a plant to take home in their own customised pot and learn a little about how important urban gardens are for our environment. Where possible they will also be able to plant something at their organisations property, this could be a small planter using space they already have or creating a space for something to grow.

This educational session takes climate change back to basics and explores what is causing the crisis. We take an in depth look at some of the lesser known causes and the wider impacts of these and consider what action is taking place and what needs to be done next. Suitable for young people with an interest in climate change, though no prior knowledge is needed.

This educational session explores different climate change caused catastrophes and extreme weather events. We look at what happened, what caused it and what could have been done to avoid it. We then learn about the communities working to solve problems, fight for change and making the world safer for us all. Young people will get the change to discuss what they could be doing in their own community in both big and small ways and create an action plan.

This workshops is great as a stand alone session, but also works great along side ‘understanding the climate crisis’ and ‘catastrophe and community.’ For this session young people should have a good base understanding of climate change.
Young people will look into the different impacts of climate change and more specifically at those impacting their community, this may be flooding, wild fires, crop failure or much more. They will then consider some of the solutions or preventative measure hat could be put in place and reflect on their place in making these changes. Young people will be supported to take ownership of action. Create a timeline of change that needs to happen and where they fit in to this timeline. They will learn about leadership and gain an understanding of what it takes to be a great leader, from taking the first steps to giving power to others who are better suited for a task.
